Keep in mind
Although polyethylene can be used in a wide range of applications, it is still important to take notice of polyethylene’s limitations – most of which are avoidable with proper planning and handling. This should help you to ensure maximum productivity of your polyethylene pipes.
As temperature increases, PE becomes less strong and stiff. For constant use at high temperatures reduce the pressure rating. Certain solvents can filter through the pipe wall.

Bends, kinks, gouging, or excessive abrasion can compromise mechanical properties. Relatively low shear strength. Installation must avoid the development of high shear stressing. This can occur in flexible pipes as a direct result of overburdening from above, while connected to a set immovable structure such as a water main. Ask your pipeline design expert for more information.
The coefficient of thermal expansion/contraction is higher than metal. Installation must prevent the development of disproportionate pipe contraction forces. This can produce higher than desirable pullout and bending loadings at the point where the pipe connects with a rigidly held fitting.
